About the Journal

The South American Research Journal (SA-RJ), edited by Cabrera & Andrade and co-published by Instituto Superior Tecnológico Universitario San Isidro, is a  periodical dedicated to academics and researchers from diverse disciplines.

Aim

The aim of the South American Research Journal (SA-RJ) is to serve as a cutting-edge platform for the publication and dissemination of original and critical research that contributes to the understanding and interdisciplinary discussion of complex problems in the biosocial, biological, and social sciences.

Scope

The South American Research Journal (SA-RJ) welcomes contributions across a broad spectrum of fields, including but not limited to biology, sociology, ecology, anthropology, and public health, with a special emphasis on studies that cross these disciplines to form interdisciplinary approaches. The journal publishes both basic and applied research articles that demonstrate methodological rigor, conceptual innovation, and practical relevance. Furthermore, submissions that adopt or discuss systemic philosophical perspectives to explain complex phenomena in the biological and social world are encouraged. SA-RJ is committed to being an inclusive forum for researchers from around the world, particularly those from South America, to present research that can influence both academia and public policy.

Areas of interest

The journal is open to disciplinary and interdisciplinary publications, primarily in the fields of of biosocial sciences, biological sciences and social sciences. It accepts articles from both basic research seeking answers to cognitive problems and applied research aimed at potential social interest.

Requirement of originality

The journal publishes original articles that contribute novel insights, presenting content that cannot be conveyed through other means within the scientific community.

Continouos periodicity

The journal publishes one volume per year, divided into two issues. The first issue is published in early December, covering the period from December to May. The second issue is published in the first days of June, covering the period from June to November. The articles are published with a continuous periodicity* recording the date of publication of each one.

*According to Quirós (2018) this consists of a type of publication in which "articles are placed one by one on the journal's page, once they have completed the peer review process, the process of proofreading, philological correction, translation and layout" (p.2).

Scientific Committee

The members of the Scientific Committee are admitted either by invitation or through application to the SA-RJ. The selection is based on their expertise in a scientific field, evaluated using a qualification rubric. Those achieving the highest scores are confirmed as members and receive the Certificate of Appointment as a Committee Member. This committee is renewed every three years. The responsibilities of the Editorial Committee Members include: 1) Reviewing publication proposals submitted to sa-rj.net in their areas of expertise using the double-blind peer review process. 2) Recommending high-potential research identified at congresses, workshops, meetings, and conferences for publication. 3) Ensuring adherence to the editorial guidelines and SA-RJ protocol.

Double-Blind Peer Review

Initial Submission
Articles submitted are first reviewed by a member of the journal's Editorial Committee to ensure they meet publication standards. If the article passes this initial review, the author will be notified within fifteen days about its selection for double-blind peer review.

Peer Review

In the peer review process, adhering to the Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers, reviewers access manuscripts securely through our online system, maintaining referee anonymity. At submission, authors can request the exclusion of specific scientists as reviewers and may suggest potential reviewers. These suggestions are considered but not guaranteed. Reviewers evaluate the anonymized article using a provided template

Decision After Review

The Editorial Board member makes a decision based on the reviewers' reports:

-For minor changes without the need for reevaluation, the Editorial Board member coordinates these with the author.
-For major changes, the member forwards the reviewers' suggestions and rationale.
-If both reviewers initially reject the article, the decision is final, and the author is informed of the rejection.

Revisions for Major Changes
For significant revisions, authors resubmit the revised manuscript to the reviewers for approval. If a reviewer rejects the changes, a third blind peer reviewer's decision is final and binding. The author is informed if the article is ultimately rejected.

Final Submission and Acceptance
Once editorial issues are resolved, the article is formally accepted for publication. The receipt date on the article is the date it passes our quality control, and the acceptance date is when the Editorial Board issues the acceptance letter.

Post-Acceptance

Authors receive manuscript proofs for review, with changes limited to the title, author list, or scientific corrections. All changes require editorial team approval. For style and figure size, the SA-RJ reserves the right to make final decisions.

Plagiarism Detection

Articles submitted must be original and not under consideration by any other journal or publisher. Our plagiarism and similarity detection policy involves an initial review by the Editorial Board member who assigns the article to the blind peer reviewer. This reviewer is responsible for verifying the originality of the article, using plagiarism detection software available at their affiliated institution (such as Turnitin, Urkund, or others). If the blind peer reviewer lacks access to such software, a plagiarism detection report will be requested from other committee members who have access to these resources.

Code of Ethics

The journal only accepts unpublished research, meaning the content must not have been published in other sources. We strictly enforce sanctions against academic dishonesty and research fraud. In instances of suspected plagiarism, article duplication, ethical violations, or falsification of data in submitted or published articles, we will act in accordance with SA-RJ Code of Ethics

Open Access

SA-RJ is an open access journal, committed to making science freely available for development. Readers can directly access the journal's content through its repository, other servers, and via the unique digital object identifier (DOI) code provided by the International DOI Foundation. This access is facilitated through the Zenodo repository, a part of the European Union's OpenAIRE program, operated by CERN.

Publication Fee

The publication fee for SA-RJ is set at 120 USD per paper. This fee is calculated after the refereeing, editing, and layout processes are complete. There are no additional surcharges.

Copyrights and Licenses

Intellectual property rights are protected under the Intellectual Property Law of Ecuador  . Policies regarding copyright, plagiarism, and redundant or overlapping publication, along with prepublication and publication licenses, are outlined in accordance with the SA-RJ protocol.

Access and Reuse Policies

SA-RJ adopts the Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 LEGAL CODE, a copyright license that permits free distribution of a "work". This license allows for the use, distribution, modification, and building upon the original work in any manner, including commercial purposes. However, it requires proper attribution to the original creator. This means crediting the original author and providing a link to the original license.

Interoperability Protocol

SA-RJ employs an interoperability protocol that interfaces with various distribution systems, including harvesters. Utilizing the Open Journal Systems (OJS), it inherently supports the Open Archives Initiative-Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH), enabling the generation of multiple metadata formats.

Digital Preservation Policy

The SARJ magazine employs a digital preservation system using DOI (Digital Object Identifier) generated through ZENODO. This ensures identification and facilitates information retrieval independently of the magazine's webpage. ZENODO, a part of the European OpenAIRE program operated by CERN, assigns persistent Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to the deposited elements, allowing easy citation by other users.
